HOW IT WORKS

Who Should Participate in
|
Emotions are contagious to multiple levels of separation (Barsade 2002). Many caregiver occupational problems stem from the powerful negative emotions of patients. These transfer to caregivers and through them to their co-workers, support and admin team, management, and their family and friends, causing stress and often leading to depression, health and relationship problems. HAHACARE provides protection against these negative emotions and imparts participants with a strong daily dose of positive emotions. Barriers to communication between participants are removed, and the program instills trust, respect and understanding between participants. We strongly recommend that as many team members as possible be included in the HAHACARE program:

Best Practice Maintenance |
Our team of professionals visits each HAHACARE group every 2-3 months to confirm the quality of therapy and ensure that best practices are maintained.
New participants who have joined the group are provided with
program orientation.
More frequent visits and additional therapy can be arranged
if problems are identified that require urgent attention. An
annual program debriefing and booster training session is
held for all participants. |
Monitoring and Evaluation |
HAHACARE is an evidence-based program. Funders receive quarterly reports on changes in participants, program implementation and results. Our team of professionals undertakes baseline evaluation before HAHACARE training of program participants and their perception of the mental state of their adult patients. OVC caregivers are asked to complete a separate questionnaire for each child in their care. A second evaluation is performed 2-3 weeks after training, with regular follow-up evaluations every 2-3 months. Monitoring and evaluation is conducted under the control of IHI psychology. Results can be audited by a leading independent psychometric testing firm on request, who can also be contracted for independent result verification. |
