HOW IT WORKS

The HAHACARE program

HAHACARE is a new way to uplift and heal caregivers - it resolves caregiver occupational problems and boosts their performance, efficiency and efficacy.

HAHACARE training empowers caregivers to use the therapy with their patients to improve mental and physical health and adherence to medications.

Most caregivers implement the therapy at home to resolve relationship problems with their family, neighbors and community - many volunteer HAHACARE to community groups.

We strongly recommend that the caregiver support team including directors, managers, administrators, social workers, drivers, cleaners, and even cooks participate in the program.

Program
Objectives

The objectives of HAHACARE intervention are:

  • To enable daily group self-therapy that resolves caregiver occupational problems and boosts their work performance, efficiency and efficacy.

  • To empower caregivers to apply HAHACARE therapy to improve their patients’ state of mind, with resulting improvements in mental and physical health and improved reliability and adherence to medications.

  • To improve organizational mood and efficiency through improved teamwork, communication, motivation and cooperation.

Program
Implementation

The HAHACARE annual contract includes training, monitoring and evaluation, and best-practice maintenance provided by Happy Healthy People SA (Coop.) Ltd.

It is rolled out in groups of 12-36 caregivers who work and train together. A separate individual training program is available for those not working in groups.

The program has been warmly embraced and shows excellent sustainability.

HAHACARE can be rolled out on site within weeks in a range of South African and Zimbabwean languages. Sophisticated training facilities are not required. One HAHACARE training team is able to start 12-15 HAHACARE groups per month.
