International Happiness Institute (IHI) was
founded in 2007 in Mumbai India by Bill Gee, a happiness
coach, laughterologist, and former director of Laughter Yoga
International, an organization with practitioners in more
than 60 countries on all continents.
IHI is dedicated to:
-
Develop science-based programs using
Aerobic Laughter therapy and other positive psychology
techniques to address the specific requirements of
groups in need
-
Conduct and cooperate in research into
the benefits of Happiness Coaching
-
Provide happiness coaching services and
professional training
IHI is represented in southern Africa by Happy Healthy
People (Coop.) Ltd
that provides a range of happiness coaching services to
individuals and companies including AngloGold Ashanti,
Xstrata Alloys, SA Department of Education, and the SA
Department of Economic Development and Tourism.
faHAHACARE
In 2008 IHI identified the needs of people
living with HIV (PLWH) and AIDS orphans and vulnerable
children and their caregivers as closely matching the
benefits of happiness coaching and ALT. It was evident that
no program existed to provide effective psychosocial
upliftment and support to this fast-growing group.
IHI started a development program in South
Africa to develop a low-cost standardized science-backed
program with built-in accountability that could be rolled
out on a large scale.
The resulting HAHACARE program has been
rolled out successfully to more than 600 caregivers and is
improving the quality of care and quality of life of
thousands of patients and OVCs and their caregivers.
